Day 6: Windley Key

The drive down from Vero to here took a bit longer than expected, mainly because we didn't choose the best route...or should I say tomtom didn't. But we arrived mid-afternoon on a cloudy, but warm and humid day.

Our tiny room (very tiny) looks out over the Atlantic, which is a typical tropical blue/green color. There must be a reef or something out there because even with the stiff breeze off-shore there's not a wave in sight. Windley Key is one of the islands making up the village of Islamorada.

Dinner tonight was at the Island Grill, which is as oceanfront as any restaurant can be. Now way could a building be this close to the ocean (other than on a pier) at home. But with no real "surf" it's a risk they're willing to take. We had cracked conk and broke our diet by sharing a piece of Key Lime Pie. Hey, we're in the Keys.

Tomorrow we'll drive down to Key West (to say we've been there/done that).

Gail answering some emails outside our room. That's the Atlantic in front of her.

Here's another view from in front of our room.

Beyond that mangrove is the ocean. I could jump from my table into the water. (But I chose not to.)

  1. You can pick the route - either fastest or shortest (which is not always the fastest because of speed limits). Sorry it took you a little longer to get there but it does look beautiful.
